What Is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a professional exfoliation treatment that uses a sterile surgical blade to gently remove dead skin buildup and fine vellus hair ("peach fuzz") from the surface of the skin. This controlled exfoliation instantly smooths the skin and allows skincare products to absorb more effectively.
The result is instantly visible: skin that feels incredibly smooth to the touch, looks brighter and more radiant, and absorbs skincare products with dramatically improved efficacy. Makeup application becomes noticeably more flawless, sitting evenly on the fresh skin surface rather than on a layer of debris and fine hair.
Patients often notice brighter, softer, more radiant skin immediately after treatment. Makeup also tends to apply more evenly and smoothly, making dermaplaning a favorite before events, photos, or weddings. At Oak Haus, we frequently combine dermaplaning with treatments like DiamondGlow®, chemical peels, and customized facials to enhance exfoliation and improve overall glow and skin texture. Dermaplaning is painless, requires little to no downtime, and is safe for most skin types when performed by a trained provider.

Why Dermaplaning?
The Benefits of Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning delivers a unique combination of benefits that no other single treatment achieves – all without downtime or discomfort.
Instantly Smoother Skin
The physical removal of dead skin cells and vellus hair leaves skin feeling immediately silky – a tactile transformation you notice the moment you walk out.
Brighter Complexion
Removing the dull buildup of dead cells reveals the fresh, luminous skin beneath – giving you an immediate glow that improves how you look in both natural light and photographs.
Enhanced Product Absorption
With the barrier of dead cells removed, serums, moisturizers, and active ingredients penetrate the skin dramatically more effectively – amplifying the results of your entire skincare routine.
Flawless Makeup Application
Makeup sits on a perfectly smooth canvas – foundation applies evenly without catching in fine hairs or dry patches, and the finish is noticeably more polished.
Peach Fuzz Removal
Vellus hair traps makeup and can be visible in certain lighting. Dermaplaning removes it entirely – and contrary to popular myth, it does not grow back thicker or darker. Vellus hair is not terminal hair and cannot change character.
Safe During Pregnancy
Dermaplaning is one of the few facial treatments that is completely safe during pregnancy – no acids, no lasers, no chemicals. Expectant mothers often turn to dermaplaning as a gentle way to maintain radiant skin.
Your Treatment
What to Expect at Your Appointment
A standalone dermaplaning session takes approximately 30–45 minutes. When combined with a facial or peel, expect 60–75 minutes total.
Skin Cleanse
Skin is thoroughly cleansed and dried. Clean, dry skin ensures the blade moves smoothly and safely across the surface.
Dermaplaning
A sterile surgical blade is used to gently scrape the skin at a precise angle – removing dead cells and vellus hair. The sensation is like a light scratching, entirely painless.
Serum Infusion
Following dermaplaning, your provider applies targeted serums that penetrate deeply into the freshly cleared skin for maximum benefit.
Optional Add-On
Dermaplaning pairs beautifully with a chemical peel or facial for enhanced results. Your provider can recommend the ideal combination for your goals.
Walk Out & Glow
No downtime. Moisturizer and SPF are applied to finish. You can apply makeup immediately and return to all normal activities right away.
Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my peach fuzz grow back thicker after dermaplaning?
No – this is the most common misconception about dermaplaning. Vellus hair (peach fuzz) does not have the same follicle structure as terminal hair. Shaving or scraping vellus hair does not change its thickness, color, or growth rate. It will grow back exactly as it was – fine and soft.
Is dermaplaning safe for acne-prone skin?
Dermaplaning is safe for mild to moderate acne-prone skin but is not recommended during an active breakout – performing it over active pustules or papules can spread bacteria and worsen inflammation. For clients with significant active acne, we recommend BBL Clear or other treatments first.
How often should I get dermaplaning?
Every 4–6 weeks is the standard recommendation – this aligns with the skin's natural cell turnover cycle. Many clients schedule it as a monthly maintenance treatment to keep their skin consistently smooth and glowing.
What is the Dermaplaning + Chemical Peel combo?
Performing dermaplaning before a chemical peel removes the barrier of dead skin and peach fuzz, allowing the peel's active acids to penetrate the skin more evenly and effectively. The combination delivers significantly more dramatic results than either treatment alone – and is one of our most popular service pairings at Oak Haus.
